Stuffed Chicken by scrappychic

Now, on to this week’s challenge! Blocking is hot these days, and I have a blocking template for you to play with. I made this layout for Shannon’s (ZaCola3) Recipe Challenge @ Sweet Shoppe Designs last month, as well as for Alina’s food layout challenge here on the blog.

Shannon’s recipe called for blocking and scallops to be included, and once I knew what I wanted to scrap I had a good idea of how I wanted those two things to look. So I made a template for them to get them just how I wanted. I don’t know about you guys, but I do that a lot when I get a set idea for certain aspects of a page. I thought they turned out kind of fun, so I decided to carry on and make my first complete page template and use it for my turn here on La’s blog challenge. I hope you like it and have fun playing with it!
La and the team played and here are the fabo pages they came up with:

As you can see, there’s lots of different ways you can use the template, and I’m sure you will think up even more. I used to freeze up when I first started using templates, and I hated them because I felt like they were forcing me to scrap a page a specific way. Then I realized I could just use them as a jumping off point, and it was more than okay to make the resulting page very much my own. Now I love ‘em, because sometimes our mojo needs a big ol’ kick in the butt, and they can be just the thing. I’ll use one to get me started, and let the page flow from there in whatever direction feels right. Sometimes they look very close to the template, with a few tweaks on my part, other times the page develops its own personality that completely takes over.
